Roberto is a licensed social worker and therapist in Pennsylvania. He has over a decade of experience working in community-based social service agencies, serving primarily Spanish-speaking and Latine communities in North Philly.
As a therapist, Roberto specializes in grief and trauma, completing graduate-level education in childhood trauma studies with Thomas Jefferson and Widener University, and his clinical internship and work at the Uplift Center for Grieving Children here in Philadelphia. Today he continues to receive training in grief and trauma, as well as child-centered play therapy, building on a practice that emphasizes using play, creative/expressive arts, and body-centered relaxation exercises to support clients on their therapy journey.
Why Did You Become a Therapist?
As a first generation Colombian-American, my family’s own experiences with grieving in 2 countries gave me a deeper appreciation for the importance of providing culturally relevant and necessary grief work for families with roots in multiple places. My hope as a therapist is to join my clients in finding ways to celebrate and remember their loved ones with new and old traditions.
